Mixes for your weekend

Hello there. I've encountered some nice mixtapes lately, and it's also friday, so it's time to do one of these posts. Party music for your weekend. Woohoo!

Fanu's Breaks 'n' Beats Podcast #1

We're starting with a brand new podcast from the one like Fanu. This is a dope tape. It contains of all kinds of cool drum'n'bass styles, but surprisingly most of it is on the more breaky side. Like. That's a really big surprise.
Der Fanumeister has written a blog post about the mix too, with comments on each track of the mix. Check it out. Hope #2 gets released soon too.

DJ Hexe - V'Ger

Next up we have a mix by a Finnish producer and DJ called Hexe from Virrat, Finland.
It's an electro mixtape, and as a fan of proper electro I was more than happy to check this out and have a listen, and it's dope. Great scifi electro all the way and 100% vinyl too. Check it out.

SSLLOOWW TAPES - ssllooww down

The last mix comes from a Melbourne-based (I think) blog called Ssllooww tapes. It's recorded by Rory McPike whose drum'n'bass tunes have appeared every now and then in our podcasts. It's an ambient/downtempo/artsywhateverhipstermusic mix, perfect for taking it easy and chilling. No tracklist yet unfortunately, but there are tracks for example from Four Tet, Boards Of Canada, Aphex Twin and local Melbourne producers, including Rory himself. Apparently part 2 is coming at some point too. Hopefully soon.

Blu Mar Ten Music podcast - Chapter #1

Now, here's a brand new podcast series from Blu Mar Ten. In chapter one (and most likely in later chapters too) they are going to play some tunes forthcoming on their label Blu Mar Ten Music, stuff that they like and has influenced them.

"Just a word of warning, if you are looking for a kind of normal drum'n'bass podcast, this is probably not the one for you"

Blu Mar Ten Music Podcast - Chapter 1 by Blu Mar Ten presents: parts & sequences

In december the St. Petersburg -based crew/website Microfunk announced a follow up for their previous project, Applied Minimalism where participants were encouraged to create music using only the TR-808 kick drum as the only sound source.

In the new project called Parts and Sequences people were asked to send drums, basses, pads, melodies and whatnot in order to create a tune together. Obviously the samples had to be in the same tempo (170) and key (Am or C). I was planning to participate too but I actually forgot.

Anyway, the end result is now here, but because of the sheer amount and variety of the sounds provided, Bop, Jalex and Oak ended up creating a live session consisting of six "scenes" instead of just writing one tune.

Check the results from the video above or soundcloud player below, or download it:

ASC - mnml ssg mix

ASC recently made a mix for mnml ssg blog which covers mostly techno, ambient and other really nice things. With that in mind, his mix isn't exactly an average drum'n'bass mix. The guys asked him to do a mix that is both ambient, like his Deep Space mixes, and drum'n'bass, and the mix is exactly that.

Microfunk presents: [ applied minimalism ]

What happens when bunch of producers write tracks using only the 808 kickdrum as the only sample, then those tracks get compiled and mixed together? Something like the "Applied Minimalism" project/mix that was launched by about two months ago.

Eventually, 70 tracks were written and sent by artists like Subwave, Bop, Nphonix, Oak and many more and now the results are here for us to listen.

Indigo - Planes of Existence

"If you find yourself alone, riding in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled - for you are in Elysium, and you're already dead."

Murky deep waters ambient from one of my personal favourite DJs in Finland (and probably many others pick him too), Indigo. This one caught my attention because of the two Oöphoi tracks from his album 'Spirals of Time' that got me back into the great depths of ambient after a small break. Celestial soundscapes guaranteed.

Early bird

Great music for mornings when you're up early but you don't have any kind of rush anywhere and you more or less wait for the time to pass. So you just sit down, have some coffee and let the music fill the room and you wake up slowly.
